10:30 - 11:10
Employee Health Promotion Programs (EHPPs) are essential to manage health cost reduction, productivity and employee morale. Health Risk Appraisals (HRAs) are usually the first step of EHPPs for baseline generation, risk stratification and program planning. However, HRAs require time for customization, translation and final administration, especially for a large multi-cultural organization with over 50,000 employees. Saudi Aramco developed, administered and analyzed an in-house health assessment tool: the Employee Health Screening Survey (EHSS) in an expedited fashion, taking care to avoid disruption of business activities, and at low cost. The EHSS had a response rate of 41%, which is very high, and identified the leading conditions as high cholesterol, back pain, and anxiety. This information was combined with data on chronic disabling conditions among Saudi Aramco employees (back pain, musculoskeletal disorders, mental health disorders, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes). These were mapped against known modifiable risk factors for the major causes of morbidity. A set of three key risk factors that drive multiple outcomes were identified and targeted as priorities for intervention. Programming based on these priorities has now been implemented. The process of implementation is described and the patterns of disease are compared to international patterns.
