How Culture Influences Behavior-Based Safety In The Workplace

This paper presents the general framework of a Behavioural Based Safety (BBS) model and discusses the synergistic factors that impact behaviour. Although specific behavioural safety systems may vary in form and complexity, there are fundamentally four common elements: identification, measuring, monitoring, and improving behavioural based safety systems.ents


Presenter – Dr. Ali M. Al-Hemoud

Ali M. Al-Hemoud, Ph.D., CIH, CSP is an associate researcher at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research where he has worked since 1996. He obtained his doctoral degree in industrial engineering from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio (the recipient of King Faisal Foundation Award from Saudi Arabia in 1994 for Excellence of PhD). He is a Board-Certified in Safety (CSP) and Board-Certified in Industrial Hygiene (CIH). Dr. Ali conducts environmental and occupational health and safety research & training programs in Kuwait and other Gulf countries (Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain) for the oil and petrochemical industry, private sector and service and educational government institutions. Dr. Ali had provided curriculum design assistance and laboratories in environmental and occupational health and safety for colleges including Kuwait University, Arabian Gulf University Bahrain, and Public Authority for Applied Education and Training. Curriculum design was structured according to ABET requirements. In addition, Ali supervised graduate students at the masters level studying in Bahrain, Brunei, Kuwait, USA, Britain. Ali has over 30 publications in referred journals and conferences.
