Safety Management Techniques

Introduction

This 5 days course is part of the Advanced Safety Certificate by the US National Safety Council. The workshop does more than show what an effective safety manager does. It shows how to do it through a balanced approach to safety management, addressing administrative, technical and cultural elements of safety. 

Participants will learn how to lead safety in the organization, and how to get the team involved in safety and health efforts. 

Who Should Attend?

You should attend this course if you are coordinating, supervising, or managing safety and health efforts at your facility/company. Designed for the safety leader, this course meets the needs of safety and health committee leaders, supervisors, and middle/upper managers. 

Workshop Objectives
 

  1. Identify the fundamental principles of safety management.
  2. Recognize the key elements of NSC's safety management system.
  3. Determine your role as a safety and health professional and define line management's safety and health responsibilities.
  4. Identify leadership strategies that contribute to your success as a manager.
  5. Recognize the dynamics of organizational safety culture.
  6. Recognize strategies and steps to create organizational and individual change.
  7. Enhance your interviewing, consulting and influencing skills to enlist support from key people in your organization.
  8. Use measurement tools to track the progress of your organization's safety management system.
  9. Identify the steps for preparing a successful safety management audit.
  10. Establish a business case for a safety management system.
  11. Use problem solving and decision making skills to resolve your organization's safety and health issues
  12. Create an action plan to improve safety management in your organization.

Module 13: Analyzing case studies from a management perspective 

Assessment and Certification

Assessment comprises a multiple choice exam followed by practical basement. Candidates will be awarded Safety Management Certificate from National Safety Council which carries 2.6 CEUs (Continuing Education Units) towards advance certificate. 

Instructor – Eur.Ing. Namir George
Namir George is a registered European Engineer and was educated at Aston University in Birmingham UK. He graduated with a BSc. in Chemical Engineering in 1979 and an MSc in Occupational Health and Safety in 1981 He is currently employed as an Area Manager for the International Safety Council, a global subsidiary of the National Safety Council, USA. He has 25 years experience in the field of Safety and Loss prevention gained in various industry sectors. He worked at various positions for blue chip organizations such GlaxoSmithKline, Kraft Food International Honeywell and Dailycer. In addition he worked for several safety consultancies and undertook several projects including chemical, petrochemical, food and drink, automotive, utilities, as well as pharmaceuticals such as Shell, Total oil Marine, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Masterfoods, EON, VDO, Florette, .etc. He is a Chartered Chemical Engineer, Chartered Fellow of the Institution of Occupational Safety, member of American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and an affiliate member of Institution of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA). In addition he is a member of the Birmingham Health, Safety and Environmental Association (BHSEA).
